137- How to talk to your friends and family about what it's like being a music teacher

In this episode, I give you ways to talk to your family and friends about what you REALLY do as a music educator and how to explain to them why you need their support now more than ever including:

  • Explain what you do
  • Tell them why you’re tired
  • Show them a sample lesson you’ve recorded
  • Be proud of yourself and share your work
  • Tell them it’s changed so much since they were in school
  • Help them realize that working with kids is way different than working with adults in an office job
  • Explain what you deal with as a music teacher on a personal and day to day basis with your colleagues and students
  • Talk to them about expectations put on you and how if you vent to them it’s not because you hate your job that sometimes you just need a sounding board Invite them to come and see your students perform during a non covid time of course
  • Tell them how they can support you whether it’s your spouse, a friend, or other family members who you’re needing support from
